Winter Photography
Monday, 11 January 2010 00:00

Beauty being nosey

While the recent wintry weather has brought many challenges for everyone across the country, the combination of pure white snow and sun shining low in the sky has brought great opportunities for photographers.

James has recently been working with a number of clients who enjoy riding their horses and ponies from a local equestrian centre.  Snow acts as a brilliant reflector to give an even, shadowless "glow" to the subject and, with the snow also flying everywhere from galloping hooves, some great action shots were captured.

But the show was stolen by the smallest pony of them all - a wee Shetland called Beauty - who just popped her chin onto the top of a low fence to see what the fuss was all about.  James decided to focus only on her muzzle area and allow the background to blur slightly - a bit quirky but what do you think?

Spirit of Scotland Awards

Sprit of Scotland Awards 2009

A busy night for James at the recent Spirit of Scotland Awards, sponsored by Glenfiddich in association with the Scotsman.  The awards recognise leading individuals in Scottish culture across a broad range of areas - food, music, art, the environment, screen, business, writing and sport.

As well as photographing the impressive stage set and surroundings of the event, JCP was on hand to capture the moment each award winner was announced.  These included writer Ian Rankin, notable for his "Rebus" novels, actor Peter Capaldi (who starred in James's fav film of all time, "Local Hero") and Susan Boyle, who needs no further description after her phenomenal 2009.

And well done to everyone at Sound+Vision for putting on another fantastic presentation, both indoors and out.  Do you know how difficult it is to project sponsors logos onto the facade of a building when a freezing wind is howling around you?  Ask James!

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
